Blog EntryAlmost readyMay 16, '08 6:43 AM
for everyone

We're almost cleaned up from winter and really ready for visitors! I need to take a break from cleaning though. The vet was supposed to come out yesterday, he showed up but then realized that all of his vaccines were left at the previous farm. I'm the furthest away from his office, so I always am the last visit. It ook me 3 months to get this appointment and now I have to wait for him to come back. UGH!

Sorry, but sometimes it's a bit frustratiing waiting to get the vet here and having it fall through.

But the farm is looking better every day and it should be a fun year with dome of the things we have planned for visitors.

Blog EntryWhew! Busy day!May 4, '08 9:01 AM
for everyone
Yesterday was quite a busy day. We started the day with 5 kids on the ground and ended up with 9 kids on the ground. That's right, two sets of twin bucks. And they're gorgeous of course! Lots of blue eyes and different bloodlines. I'll be posting pictures of them later today. One more doe to kid the first week of June and we're done for the season.

Blog EntryCart Goats!Apr 20, '08 7:16 AM
for everyone

Our cart goats arrived safe and sound at 2 am. They're big boys named Dannie and Dunnie. Even after being on the trailer from OH, they clipped to a lead and walked right off the trailer no problems. Of course our two dairy girls had to check out the boys that are the same size as them...lol We'll see how the fainters like checking them out today. I hope the holding pen fence is high enough for these guys.We should be carting in no time. Pictures to follow.

Have the best of days, M

Blog Entry2008 Kids!Apr 14, '08 1:42 PM
for everyone
Our kids have started arriving! Woke up at 3:30 this morning to funny sounds on the baby monitor. Well, sure enough! Ruthie decided to have her kids, twin does weighing in at 6 lbs each. One is apricot and white and the other is mostly brown, with some black and a white splash and frosted ears. No names yet.

Blog EntrySunny Days!Apr 8, '08 8:19 AM
for everyone

It's going to be a beautiful day today! Woke up in the 20's but promises to get into the 50's and stuff is melting at a rapid pace now. Good thing too, as hay is getting hard to find and it'll be at least 2 months before the hay men are able to cut and bale. The girls are all getting rather plump and miserable. Poor Ruthie looks like she's going to pop. She's due on the 19th, but I'm predicting the 14th. And of course it's supposed to rain for 8 straight days around then. I've begun the awful spring task of cleaning up outside. I have a mantra now...." the pitch fork is my friend" and I say it over and over as I move wet heavy, sometimes frozen piles of hay and poop from the goat pens. But it's worth it, because once it's cleaned up and the ground dries, it'll be beautiful out there and we'll have kids running and playing on all of the toys that have been buried in snow for the last 6 months. Well, y'all have the very best of days!

for everyone

We have snow again today, but it's warmer and spring is in the air! We start kidding in a couple of weeks and I need to build a few more kidding pens and mend some fences that didn't do to well this winter. I can't wait for babies, I need something to look forward to besides all the spring clean up....ugh!

Blog EntryAnother Day in Paradise!Mar 31, '08 8:07 AM
for everyone

Well it looks like we're finally going to get a break in the weather and start to thaw out! After tonight that is. We're actually supposed to be in the 50's tomorrow! I saw my first robins of the season! It wasn't here at home, but I know they're in the area! Have to build a couple more kidding pens., since we made changes to the "barn" and only have one now. We start kidding in a few weeks.

I've been brushing all the goats out and looks like I'll have a pretty good cashmere crop this year. So I should be able to make a few more adopt a goats for a 2008 series.

Our oldest son, started on a new job and has to leave pretty early. Well, now the dogs want to get up and go out at 4 am. I'm so tired from the new schedule. It's like having a baby in the house and the schedule changes all the time.

Everything's looking up. Just looking forward to cleaning and building and fixing. The usual spring chores.

Y'all have the very best of days! M

Blog EntryMore weather!Mar 19, '08 7:32 AM
for everyone

Well, winter may never end. Although it's warmer today, in the 30's already. But the wind is blowing pretty good so it doesn't feel very nice. Oh and did I mention it's snowing? Today's prediction is for snow, ice and rain. Just means mother nature is determined that I slip and break something before this is all over.

We're due to start kidding in about 4 weeks. We'll still have alot of snow and ice on the ground for sure. I'm guessing that the bigger snow banks (ice now) will not completely melt until we're into June. I might have to push kidding back to May if this keeps up. Or build a heated barn, and you know that's not going to happen....lol

Well, have a great day and remember, there's no where to go but up!

Blog EntryNew WebsiteMar 16, '08 2:06 PM
for everyone

I spent the better part of 2 weeks rebuilding the website in a new program (not fun). The new program wasn't fun to learn but the website is awesome! So take a look when you get a chance. www.wonderfallfarm.com

Spent the morning cleaning out both barns down to the wood. We did have to take the pick to a few places to chip away at some stubborn ice. Did I mention that the ice in most places is over 1 foot thick? We'll be spring cleaning the outside pens until June at this rate. One layer at a time as the weather permits. Looks like this will be the second year that we'll have snow and ice on the ground when kids arrive.

Have the best of days!

Blog EntrySpring is almost here!Mar 15, '08 9:05 AM

Are you ready for spring?

Well, it's pretty much looking like spring here. Meaning that even though it's still snowing, the temps have come up and birds are singing. I haven't seen a robin yet but I know I will!

Blog EntryOur weather is crap!Feb 19, '08 7:04 PM
for everyone

Woke up yesterday to 50 degrees and rain. Where most people would love that after an awful winter, we did not! Why? You ask? Because after being in the single digits and snowing the whole weekend, I may have woken up to warmer weather, but also to a solid sheet of ice.

I had to carry a bag of  snow melt and throw it in front of me all the way to the barn to get there without falling on my behind.

Well, I've added a video I took today of my oldest sin ice skating on our driveway so y;all could see it.

I'm sure spring isn't too far away.....I've heard some spring birds out there somewhere.
